Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Stefany Layton currently lives and works in Jericó, a town nestled in the mountains of Antioquia. Her artistic practice lies at the intersection between the physical and the digital, exploring how technology—far from disconnecting us from the natural world—can become a symbiosis that transforms our perception and deepens our connection with the organic.
Trained as a visual artist at the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas in Bogotá, her initial focus was painting and sculpture, complemented by studies in drawing, photography, and art history. Later, her practice expanded self-taught into digital media such as virtual reality, 3D animation, and metaverse environments, through an experimental process that preserves the gestural essence of handmade art, while taking it into immersive dimensions.
Layton creates animated paintings and virtual environments that invite the viewer to dive into dreamlike landscapes, where the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, the tangible and the intangible, begin to blur. Inspired by the patterns of the natural world and the symbolic power of landscape, her work invites a sensory and spiritual contemplation, where the viewer becomes an active part of the piece.
Concepts like “expanded space” and sensory immersion are central to her visual language, where light becomes matter, image becomes environment, and technology is not a barrier but a portal. Her interest lies in that delicate intersection between the organic and the inorganic, the ancestral and the futuristic, offering an experience that brings us back to the present through a deeper awareness.
Her projects include Caja Oscura, Dreams, Metamorfosis del paisaje, and immersive journeys through platforms like Hyperfy and OnCyber, with works such as Flores que nunca mueren and El Laberinto Bloom. In these pieces, art becomes a space to inhabit, a reflection on the transformation of landscape and the bodily memory of the image.
She has participated in group exhibitions and international festivals such as the Komagene Biennale (Kaş, Turkey), Future IO Gallery, and Solace Gallery (United Kingdom), where her work engages with pressing themes around art, technology, and contemporary spirituality.
For Layton, art is not only something to be seen: it is something to inhabit, to breathe, and to feel. Her practice proposes contemplative spaces in which to pause, observe, and perhaps remember something ancient and vital within ourselves.
