Born in the Forest is a video project created in a virtual reality (VR) space with the intention of representing roots and reflecting on the place of origin. It portrays the jungles I have visited in my Colombian homeland. I was born in the city of Bogotá, and despite our strong sense of identity, I felt disconnected from my homeland and my roots. The buildings, traffic, and individualistic lifestyle of a society that lives to work had erased what my childhood had revealed to me as Colombian. That connection with traditions lived in nature, where we had access to sleep in the trees and a deep connection with the earth, gradually faded over time.
Born in the Forest is a rebirth into the land, a contemplation of the forests that once surrounded me and from which I grew distant over time. This project is a return to identifying with a more organic and lived identity.
